Aberdeenshire

This former manse is located in an elevated position near the village of Aboyne, in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Scotland. The house enjoys spectacular panoramic views over the countryside to the South. Rather than focusing on an overly manicured front garden, the design sought to enhance these views, taking into account the scale of the landscape.

Behind the main house is a walled garden with an unusual semi-circular rear wall. The refurbished tennis court was retained in the centre but concealed behind an orchard on one side, and flanked on the remaining sides by a more formal garden. Box edged beds follow the curved wall, and are filled with a mixture of herbaceous planting, fruit and vegetables, and a cutting garden.
