The internal courtyard of this home in Richmond receives relatively low levels of natural light. Access for maintenance is awkward, and air circulation is difficult to manage. A previous attempt by the client to plant the space had not succeeded.
Nonetheless the courtyard is very much part of the design of the living room and is constantly on show. It was therefore decided to create a tropical looking palm house using entirely artificial plants and rocks. Lighting with revolving coloured filters creates a fun and interesting focal point during the evenings.
